This video is about James and how he can use assistive technology to write independently and be his own person.

This video is about a girl named Kara who uses assistive technology. She is in High School and can not use her hands or her legs. Her assistive technology allows her to use a computer and complete homework assignments and activities like her peers. Because her hands are immobile, the assistive technology has a head mouse. This works by following a dot that is placed on her head. With this, she is able to surf the web, communicate using webcam, create word documents, and many other things that are available by using a computer. The assistive technology has helped Kara to complete her homework, which she had not completed in the past. It has also given her a higher self-esteem because she is able to participate and complete class assignments like her peers. This is a video about a girl named Ellen. She has Cerebral Palsy. She uses assistive technology because she cannot control the movements in her arms and legs. The computer is operated by two switches that Ellen can use to select the words that she wants to say to those around her. Then computer then speaks what she has selected. This form of assistive technology is great because it gives Ellen a chance to communicate to those around her. She has a mind and is capable of communication, but is limited by her disability. This technology opens many doors for Ellen. The computer can also control the television around her.

This is a girl, named Rhonda who has Cerebral Palsy, She uses a "Neater Eater" to eat since she cannot feed herself.
This is Ellen who has Cerebral Palsy. She uses s computer with two switches to help her communicate with those around her.
  • I liked the video about Rhonda. She uses a coupole of assistive technologies taht suits her needs. I like how you get to see her point of view and feelings about using assistive technology. She gives you a insider view and how she uses her assistice technologies.

Glenn has cerebral palsy. His condition has affected his ability to speak and his ability to move. His wheelchair is custom-made and allows him to communicate and control the environment around him. He can open doors, turn on lights, and operate his electronic systems through buttons on his wheelchair.
  • This type of technology is very similar to the type of technology that Ellen uses. However, Glenn has a few more capabilities with his technology. Both of the computers speak for them which allows them to have a voice and feel included in the world around them.

This video is about a woman named Janine who has cerebral palsy and she uses a special keyboard called ‘Lucy’. This keyboard is especially made for people who can’t use their hands easily so the person uses a small laser that can be mounted on their glasses or headband. The laser is used to point at the keys on the keyboard and the person can type a document or etc.
  • I posted a video about the use of assistive writing instruments. People with poor development of their fine motor skills can use instruments such as the ones in the video I posted. Much like the instruments in my video this special keyboard was made for a person who has difficulty using her hands. The keyboard is used in the same way that assistive writing instruments is. 'Lucy' allows Janine to communicate through the use of a laser. This allows Janine to type and communicate.
  • This use of assistive technology is very similar to the video that I posted above about Kara. Janine uses a laser that is mounted on her head to make selections on the computer, this is very simliar to Kara who uses a head mouse to do the same. This assistive technology has changed the lives of both of these women and has provided them with more opportunities.
  • I have never heard of or seen this type of assistive technology before, but it seems 'Lucy' could help a lot of people. I posted a video above about Glenn, who also has cerebral palsy. He uses his wheelchair to monitor and control the environment around him. He does not have very good muscle control, and using a special keyboard like this could be very beneficial for him. This technology is amazing and will improve the lives of people with various conditions that make mobility a struggle.

The above video is about a system that speaks for "Mr. P" it is able to communicate for him and he loves being able to speak.
  • This video is a really good tool to independence. Mr. P demonstrates how he uses his Eco-14 independently and explains how to use scanning with people as well as by himself. He explains how scanning works and explains that although it may take him several minutes to respond he completely knows what you are saying. He shows how scanning is used with another person and explains that if the person is not familiar with the scanning process, it may be more difficult for communication and casue frustration. I liked this video because he talks about how in high school he needed to rely on others and how he needed support to use his assistive devices and now he pretty much has full independence with communication.
